My favorite number is 18.

The 18th is my day of birth.

We are 18 weeks pregnant with Baby Nerd!

AND 2018 is when we will be welcoming Baby Nerd to our family!

Tired and Nauseous!

In July on the weekend of our 10 year anniversary we celebrated on our own in Traverse City, MI. Our first bed and breakfast experience, rock hunting, fancy dinner, and cideries were all fabulous!

In August we celebrated with family (our parents and my sister) on Mackinac Island, MI where we got married.

One day we biked 8 miles around the island and another day we walked 12-15 miles (the fitbits couldn’t agree so I will say this… we walked a LOT that day!)

On Monday after our trip I slept ALL DAY!

And on Tuesday… at 4:04am I realized that it wasn’t the combination of the island’s many smells (horse droppings, breakfast at the diner, and fudge making) that made me nauseous during the weekend. *smiles*

How did I tell Dave (aka Super Nerd)?

I decided that 4:04am wasn’t the best time to tell Dave we were having a baby so I went back to bed and got him up a little earlier than normal for a Tuesday morning.

I made Dave coffee, made sure he was dressed, and asked him to take me to the grocery store for a few items we hadn’t picked up since our weekend trip.

I drove us to the store thinking there was still an “expecting moms” parking space… and there wasn’t!

So in the grocery store parking lot under the big trees facing Taco Bell and Panera I explained my big plan — coffee, expecting moms sign, and telling him I’m pregnant… to which he gave me a nice side hug (since we were still in the car!) and Dave told me he was excited and thanked me for not waking him up at the crack of dawn!

Then Dave asked if we could go get some milk (Wisconsin boy) so we got out of the car for a hug and a kiss before we walked into the grocery store hand in hand.

Awwww… isn’t that the most romantic thing ever?

After our morning grocery store trip (and announcement) we started our day: work for Dave and laundry for me.

We live a glamorous life don’t we?

So Laura how do you feel…

I would say that tired has been one of my top pregnancy symptoms and while I’m finally not napping ALL DAY LONG… I’m still in need of a slower pace than I’m used to.

My other top symptom has been nausea which has impacted me most with movement.

Writing stories on my computer, sorting laundry (all the up and down motion!), and quickly scrolling through pictures from our travels has been something I haven’t been able to do much of in the last few months.

And Good News/Bad News — I’ve finally lost a few pesky pounds due to food aversions. Nothing sounds good to eat…still.

Cooking has turned into an all-Dave-sport and I’m ready for the magic wand of the second trimester to appear so some of these symptoms can go away!

Tell me about baby!

We have chosen the low-tech route for our babe.

We have our one ultrasound scheduled about two weeks from now and will be asking the ultrasound tech to put the news of boy or girl into an envelope and we will share at the baby showers in 2018.

As far as we know baby is healthy and happy growing. According to my pregnancy apps it should be the size of an artichoke or a croissant this week.

So what’s next for the Nerds?

Besides our ultrasound I started taking prenatal yoga which has been a great way for me to start focusing more on the amazing baby growing inside me. I love that the class is one part social/therapy time to talk about our pregnancies and one part preparing our bodies for changes as well as labor.

The biggest stress lately has been surrounding our black lab, Clementine. We think her nose bleeds and inflammation are due to sniffing something up her nose while in the backyard. Our next stop is to the specialty vet surgeon about 45 minutes away. While the extra vet bills weren’t in our plans, we know that Clementine will be a great big sister for Baby Nerd, she has had lots of practice with our nephew – he is training her with toddler snuggles and Cheerios, so basically he’s lab’s best friend!

Mid-December we start gathering with our family to celebrate Christmas and hopefully I will be able to share more of our travels here at Nerd and Super Nerd as my nausea and fatigue settle down.

In early 2018 we will just be finishing up projects like finish tiling the master bathroom which should have been done by now had Dave’s side kick (me) not been too tired to help.

We will also continue our “nesting phase” of decluttering our 10 years of house stuff and sorting through everything from kitchen stuff to paperwork to clothes.

Side note: It’s amazing how easy it is for me to donate clothes that don’t fit me right now… yay for growing for all the right reasons!

In February I’m hoping we can celebrate my birthday weekend somewhere with snow, a cozy fireplace, and a few books.

We are talking about baby showers in March (Wisconsin family and Michigan family) and preparing for baby to arrive in early May!

All in all we have more projects than firm plans from now until our cutie arrives.

That’s our Nerd update!

We hope you’re enjoying the Christmas season!

We would appreciate prayers for Baby Nerd, Dave, Laura, and Clementine and we pray that your family is well!

P.S. While we plan to continue sharing OUR stories about our Nerd and Super Nerds adventures, we won’t be sharing much about our baby Nerd. If you want more details you can head over here to read more about it!
